The set didn’t disappoint, either, quickly becoming the best-selling premier in-universe set of all time. MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Mystical Archive

In an exciting move, Wizards brought back the Mystical Archive from the original set in MTG Secrets of Strixhaven. This was one of the most beloved elements of Strixhaven: a bonus sheet of iconic instants and sorceries, with great new artwork, with one guaranteed in every pack. Secrets of Strixhaven’s version doesn’t disappoint, either, featuring a ton of pricey staples and needed reprints.
For the most expensive cards on this excellent bonus sheet, check out our list below:
As before, one Mystical Archive card is included in every Secrets of Strixhaven Play Booster pack. There are also Japanese versions of each card, with alternate artwork, available exclusively in Japanese Play Boosters or English Collector Boosters. This time around, there are also Silver Scroll foil versions of the Japanese Mystical Archive cards available. These can be found only in Collector Boosters, and at extremely low pull rates to boot.
MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Mechanics

As with most new MTG sets, Secrets of Strixhaven introduces a number of new mechanics and brings back some old ones. In total, six new mechanics make their debuts here, joined by three returning favorites from past sets.
- Opus: A new mechanic for the Prismari (Izzet) faction in the set. This rewards you for casting instant and sorcery spells, and grants an extra reward if you spend five or more mana on them.
- Repartee: A new mechanic for the Silverquill (Orzhov) faction in the set. This rewards you for targeting your creatures with instant and sorcery spells.
- Infusion: A new mechanic for the Witherbloom (Golgari) faction in the set. This rewards you for gaining life in various ways.
- Increment: A new mechanic for the Quandrix (Simic) faction in the set. Creatures with Increment gain a +1/+1 counter when you spend an amount of mana casting a spell that’s higher than the creature’s power or toughness.
- Prepared: A new mechanic found on creatures in the set. Creatures with Prepared come with an instant or sorcery attached, which you can cast once they’re Prepared, after which they’ll become Unprepared.
- Paradigm: A new mechanic found on a cycle of mythic sorceries in the set. Spells with Paradigm exile themselves on resolution, then you can cast a copy of them without paying their mana costs at the beginning of each of your first main phases.
- Flashback: A returning mechanic found on instants and sorceries in the set, specifically within the Lorehold (Boros) faction. Spells with Flashback can be cast from the graveyard for their Flashback costs, and are then exiled afterwards.
- Grandeur: A returning mechanic that offers a bonus if you discard a copy of a legendary creature you already have in play.
- Converge: A returning mechanic that rewards you with extra value for spending more colors of mana to cast a spell.
MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Commander Decks

MTG Secrets of Strixhaven got five dedicated Commander precons, one for each of the set’s two-color schools. This means one precon each for Boros, Izzet, Simic, Golgari, and Orzhov. Each of these decks included 10 brand-new cards and two new legendary face Commanders, as well as a healthy suite of often lucrative reprints.
MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Silverquill Influence

Representing the Orzhov color combination in Secrets of Strixhaven, we have the Silverquill Influence Commander precon. This deck is all about Auras, both as tools to buff your own creatures and Goad your opponents’ into attacking to your benefit. It’s an intriguing deck that can play a lot of different ways, and it proved the most popular of the new precons by far on launch. To really take this one to the next level, you can check out our Silverquill Influence upgrade guide.
MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Prismari Artistry

Secrets of Strixhaven’s Izzet-aligned Commander precon is Prismari Artistry, led by Rootha, Mastering the Moment or Muddle, the Ever-Changing. This is a classic Spellslinger deck for the most part, using cheap interaction to control the board. It also dabbles in bigger creatures and plays further up the curve, too, with beaters like Mirrorwing Dragon in the mix. If you want to further refine this list, our Prismari Artistry upgrade guide has some sage words of wisdom on that front.
MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Witherbloom Pestilence

Helmed by Dina, Essence Brewer or Gorma, the Gullet, Witherbloom Pestilence is the new Golgari Commander precon for Secrets of Strixhaven. This is essentially an Aristocrats deck, built around sacrificing your own creatures for benefit. It also includes a nice suite of Pest support, giving you an ample supply of on-board tokens.
MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Lorehold Spirit

Batting for Boros within the Secrets of Strixhaven Commander precons, we have the Lorehold Spirit deck. Led by the face Commanders Quintorius, History Chaser or Excava, the Risen Past, this deck is all about graveyard synergies and Spirit Typal plays. There’s also an interesting, and novel for Boros, focus on cards leaving your graveyard as a sub-theme. If you want to take this list to the next level, you can check out our Lorehold Spirit upgrade guide for some top tips.
MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Quandrix Unlimited

Quandrix Unlimited is a new Simic Commander precon, led by the face Commanders Zimone, Infinite Analyst or Primo, the Unbounded. The deck is themed around X-cost spells, with plenty of ramp and synergy pieces to get the most out of them. Quandrix Unlimited also includes a nice batch of +1/+1 counter synergy, with some pricey reprints for that archetype like Ozolith, the Shattered Spire.
MTG Secrets Of Strixhaven Novel

After a long hiatus, dedicated set tie-in novels made a comeback for MTG Secrets of Strixhaven. A brand-new novel, titled Omens of Chaos, was released on April 7th, 2026. This came via Seanan McGuire, New York Times bestselling YA/Fantasy author. McGuire has also written extensively for MTG in the past, with stories dating back as far as 2021’s Innistrad: Midnight Hunt.
Omens of Chaos was exciting for more than just its written content, as the hardcover first edition printing of the novel also came bundled with an exclusive Command Tower promo. While a commonplace card in general, the scarcity of this promo version has seen it climb to be a pricey card indeed in the month following its release.
